How time flies! Six years ago, I never could have imagined this little blog would reach people in 60+ countries. A love for HR, a passion for writing and the hope to contribute to the field I am proud to be a small part of has led me here.

I continue to write without thinking the world is watching, capturing a token of the human spirit for the sake of it. Documenting lessons hard learned in real time for all time. Realizing that they resonate with others is nothing short of amazing! This year Today’s Unicorn Talent crossed the 100-article mark! Over the years, your favorites have included:

The first article has been read nearly 8x more than any other article. I can only imagine it is linked in a course somewhere to reach these numbers. If you did that, thank you and please reach out!

Happy Anniversary

For Today’s Unicorn Talent’s sixth anniversary, I’m gifting the unicorns a new thumbnail logo, while hanging onto the classic primary logo.

For you, my kind readers, I’d like to plant a seed:

In a world where we fall into living to work rather than working to live…

In a season of uncertainty leading to heavy layoffs…

In hustle culture…

We must know who we are outside of our 9-5.

I’m not speaking of who we are to family and friends. Rather, how we invest in hobbies and passion projects to drive us forward and refill our cups. Sometimes its volunteering for a cause, supporting a professional organization or developing a creative project. Often, not all at the same time, but as an avenue to apply career-adjacent skills that lights you up. A project you find noble and motivating for late nights and weekends.

I’ve found having such an outlet to be rewarding. When the workday feels long, having a fun project to look forward to helps. Building something that is “yours” mitigates the mundane and retains a sense of autonomy. Added bonuses of doing this are building or refining skills and growing your network.

Proof in the Pudding

Today’s Unicorn Talent has been one way I’ve done this. From it, I’ve refined by HR point of view, built connections that have led to speaking engagements, written an eBook and shared ideas that I hope have made you ponder and then take action.

My latest passion project has been writing a novel, slated for publication in early October. It is a guardian angel twist on C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters. If you’d like to hear more, connect with me on LinkedIn.

To the Point

If you’ve been considering embarking on such a project or dusting off one you put on pause, may this be the nudge you need to get started.

Thanks for six great years! Here’s to lucky seven!
