Like many, I have a tradition of selecting a word of the year. Looking back, it appears I have an affinity for verbs.
2021: Kaizen
2022: Balance
2023: Strive
2024: Unvarnished
2025: Focus
For 2026, I’ve chosen the word “savor.” After increasing my focus in 2025, now is the time to appreciate what “made the cut,” so to speak.
Looking back on the past several years and the state of affairs, saying “this will be the year” feels a bit naïve. Fully acknowledging that this year will come with its surprises and challenges, choosing the word “savor” is how I’m taking the good with the bad and making the most of each moment.
In my eyes, savoring looks like:
Recognizing that everything evolves
Appreciating what was
Enjoying the gift of the present
Relishing people and experiences
Acknowledging what is coming
Learning from challenges to give them purpose

To the Point
What is your word of the year? If one of the above words resonates, may the article help you lean into it. Let’s embrace 2026 with renewed purpose and perspective.
